Specialist Capabilities
Border Inspection

On the 29th of September 2000 Glasgow Prestwick Airport became the only airport in Scotland licensed by DEFRA and the European Commission as an approved BIP for the importation of ungulates and equine from third countries.

The purpose built facility is situated on the west side of the airport and has airside access to apron ‘Alpha’. It is operated by Prestwick Animal Services, a wholly owned subsidiary company of Glasgow Prestwick Airport.

The Border Inspection Post facilities have been used to provide, among other things, 'full board & lodgings' for 6 days for 9 horses on route from Kentucky, USA to Gothenburg, Sweden.

NEQ

Glasgow Prestwick Airport has been able to obtain a NEQ (Net Explosive Quantity) of 11,000 kilo’s.

This is the highest capacity throughout the UK outside military airfields. Consequently the airport is now the prime site for the handling and movement of this specialised commodity.
