Glasgow Prestwick Wins New Carcassonne Route and Extra Flights to Six Destinations!
Glasgow Prestwick has received a major boost with the announcement that Ryanair is to launch a new route to the beautiful French city of Carcassonne plus extra low-cost flights to Dublin, Riga, Barcelona Girona, Alicante, Palma and Tenerife.
Group Manager Passenger Development Paula Horne explained: "We're delighted to offer our passengers a second exciting French destination along with Paris Beauvais.
"Carcassonne is situated in the Languedoc region of France, in the south of the country, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On a clear day you can see the Pyrenees.
"The old walled city, standing on a hill and capped by pointed towers, is like the backdrop to a medieval romance. It’s a fantastic short-break destination for Scots.
"The city features ancient drawbridges, turrets and an incredible 52 towers. It's no wonder Walt Disney based the castle in The Sleeping Beauty on this gorgeous medieval city.
"It’s made up of two towns; the walled Cité on its hill, and down below, across the scenic River Aude, the Bastide Saint-Louis. The Bastide is the lower town, a thirteenth-century development which is surrounded by walls. In the evening the walls are floodlit, making it so atmospheric.
The new French service, which starts on March 31, will run twice a week on Sundays and Wednesdays. Introductory fares are available now on
